THE HISTORY OF INDIAN FOOTBALL

If we talk about Sports, FOOTBALL is the number one sport all around the world . Almost all the country have a football team . But if we talk about our country India , Football is the next most popular sport after Cricket.

Football was introduced in India by the Britishers in the mid nineteenth century . Initially the game was played by the British Army. Tournaments were organized among the British soldiers.

Later after few years Football Clubs were setup in India. The first Football club was Calcutta FC,which was setup in the year 1872.By the year 1890 many more clubs were setup in India, few names of these clubs are Dalhousie Club, Naval Volunteers Club, Aryan Club, Traders Club , Sovabazar and Mohan Bagan . That time Calcutta was the Capital of India ,soon Calcutta became the Football Hub of India. Many tournaments were organized at that time like , Gladstone Cup, Trades Cup , Durand Cup  ,Cooch Behar Cup and IFA Shield . The first Indian team to achieve success was Sovabazar Club, which won the Trades Cup in 1892.
